I share some of your concerns, but realistically the money will always win.
This is simply the best format to bring in the maximum amount of revenue for those who have the power to command it. And billions of people will still be investing their time and attention in it, including almost everybody who is up in arms about it today.
And 20 years from now, all the controversy over it will be ancient history. The rising generation of fans won't know anything else, and won't care.
