Yes. Degenerative L5-S1 disk that fragmented. Tried PT for several months with worsening pain. Went in for discectomy thinking herniation, left with cleaned out fragments that had broken off disc and lodged in sciatic. Fortunately, no hardware needed. Pain gradually decreased over next four months and no pain now for close to 20 years (knock on wood). Doing great! I am a fortunate man with an honest surgeon. Back pain is the worst. I wish they could simulate real back pain for every med student as part of their training.
