Resume Advice........... job openings?
I really need a career change.

Over the past 11 years, I have opened, owned and operated four food franchise locations. It has been a pretty good career financially for our family but I really need to move on and do something else. It's slowly sucking the life out of me. This last year did me in. Staffing in the QSR industry has been brutal, especially the last few months. With stimulus money and extended unemployment benefits filling potential employee's pockets there is not a lot of impetus for some to find a job. It has been very hard.

My plan is to sell two of the locations and keep two as I transition into a new career. I have a good Supervisor who will oversee the day to day operations of the two remaining locations and a good accountant who will help with some of the admin stuff.

I digress. After graduating from BYU, my wife and I sold our house and both our cars to open our first location. It went well and we grew from there. What that means is that my resume is pretty one dimensional though. I had some small time construction management and research jobs before and during College but since I graduated in 2009 this is what I've been doing.

As a owner, you wear a lot of different hats. You are a project manager when finding and constructing a new location and head of H.R., I.T. and advertising on a daily basis. The big overlying part of the job though is managing people.

One day I might venture into doing my own thing again but I really would like something new that stretches me. A lot of the last 10+ years has been a lot of the same every single day.

So, even though I've learned a ton and feel like I'm well rounded my resume is kind of one dimensional.

I'll be reaching out to friends in my network both here in Georgia as well as out in Utah as I know that's my best bet by far. I just want my resume to be complete and up to date before I do that. So part of that process is getting advice from CB. (Maybe this is doomed to fail from the get-go.) haha.

For those of you who look at a lot or resumes, what are your recommendations? This is kind of my first time doing this and any info is good info. It's kind of funny that I have interviewed thousands of ppl and looked over hundreds of resumes for Admins and Managers we've hired but personally have never done this myself. Haha.

I know that resumes should be geared toward the job you are applying for but honestly I don't really have that figured out yet. I am open right now. I just want something new where I work with other somewhat competent adults and can learn and grow. I love teenagers but working with them and College age kids 24/7 can wear on you. Haha.

Any advice would be great.

-Any resume do's and don'ts?
-Should I include any personal info like, "I have 6 kids" or how much time I waste on Cougarboard?
-Should I add jobs as far back as college since those were my last jobs before I started my current career?
-How long should it be?

Thanks CB in advance.
