However, life has risks (i.e., Covid). We accept risk every day. I’ve fished in Alaska very near bears. It made me nervous. They weren’t afraid of me as they should be. But I risked it. (Okay, our guide stood near us with a rifle.🙂 But I was still nervous.)
We should also live in fear of deer. About 200 people in this country die every year due to auto-deer collisions. Should we therefore relegate deer to small populations in national parks? Are we okay with 200 annual deaths. Of course not. Deer, like bears, are a risk I accept.
Personally, I’m not in favor of making national parks as safe as city parks. I’ll accept the bear risk. This country doesn’t have true wildness.
