In small homogenous countries it can work. In a very large, diverse country like

the US (especially given our culture's propensity to use without thinking if something is free), it would be a nightmare. And single payer works especially well if, like Norway, your country has oil rights that are large enough to fund it without passing it on to taxpayers.
