I was in a similar situation.
I had a boss who constantly belittled me, never gave praise when i did something well, and always pointed out any tiny thing I could have done better. Everyone was afraid of her, and she was very hard to work with.

I remember she had pulled me into her office one time and asked if I wanted black Friday off. I said I would love that, to which she wrote my name down on the calendar and we went on our way.

The Monday after Black Friday came around she pulled me back into her office and asked me where I was on Friday. I told her she had given me the day off, to which she responded by belittling me and calling me a liar, that I was dishonest and trying to get out of work... etc. After 15 minutes of trying to explain the situation, she decided to show me her calendar to prove because she said if I had been given the day off, it would be on her calendar... she pulls it out and there i am, right where I needed to be.
She didn’t even apologize, just said okay nevermind you can get back to work.

A few days later, I was speaking with a fellow employee about how I had tried to get into medical sales with my uncle helping, but was unable to break in, so I decided to do marketing at the said company I was working because it was a medical clinic and I wanted experience in the back end of a medical company. This employee was very kind about it, and told me I would do great in sales. I didn’t think much of it.

A team member overheard the conversation, and tattled to my boss that I was trying to find a new job and leave. My boss pulled me in again and lectured me for a good 10-15 minutes about how I wasn’t committed to my work if I was looking for other jobs. She didn’t give me a chance to explain, and the meeting just ended with her asking me to leave.

I felt like up until this point, I had been a great employee, finishing all of my projects on time and a good job on them. I hadn’t looked at a single other job at this point, but the second I got out of that meeting I started looking.

Who knows, maybe I did suck as an employee. But I hated that job and stressed every day about going to work because I never knew if my boss was going to get super angry at the smallest thing. But About a month later I found a new job in sales that I enjoy way more (not medical) and have loved it ever since.

Morale of the story- if you aren’t happy, and it’s because of your boss, not your job, then like people have said above, life is too short to hate your job- there are plenty of other opportunities out there. And it’s much easier to look for a job when you already have one!
