I just happened to find myself in a position to start talking to this person and he was pretty forthcoming about what really happened, we ended up chatting for several hours, it was a rare opportunity for me.
He took well over an hour describing from his perspective what happened and the reasoning behind why the different people made the decisions they did, and the history as to why those people were in the positions in the first place, it was very interesting. In the end though, in his opinion, BYU whiffed on the opportunity, if they had done things differently he believed BYU would have been admitted.
