He was recovering from shoulder surgery before the Achilles tear

.. and had the unfortunate timing of having missed preseason practices so the rotation more or less was set. He was going to have to play his way into it.

His misfortune continued into the coming season because it was going to take him at least up to the start of conference play before he'd make it back out on the court.

Bad luck.
