I have taste probably a little different from most here. A couple of my favorite
“album” experiences (which are not super obscure):
- fugazi - in on the kill taker - IMO the best album ever from the punk rock genre. Plays as a full album experience. I’m exhausted after I listen to this front to back.
- neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea - this is a popular nominee for this sort of list. And for good reason. It’s a full album in every way. I think it might actually be the best single album anyone has ever recorded.
- Pedro the Lion - Control - the alum plays as a story of a marriage, ending in a murder and a death - a true concept album. Waxes smarter than any sermon I’ve ever heard about the purpose of life, morality, etc etc.
