It was conceived by CSU. BYU and Utah the flagships. Actually, it was Utah that had just made a fantastic Final Four run
The first genuine hint that an Mw school could play and beat elite blue blood programs.
And they were right. No one else really did anything like that until Utah in 2004 and then again in 2008.
By then, the only reason the MWC was on the map was because of Utah football.
It wasn’t just the two magical seasons.
It was the way Utah beat Alabama. Not through a gimmicky offense but by putting the QB on his back that got attention.
Utah and the MWC Now had a legitimate case to sue the BCS system.
They just by plucking Utah and inviting them to the pack 12, the stage is set for everything else to fall apart.
