You need to go back and read up on actual history
After BYU's Cottonbowl year and Utah's NCAA championship appearance, they, along with CSU thought, "why are we splitting the pie up this much?" And they were right. The MWC has like 16 teams or something ridiculous like that. Even if what you say is true and BYU dreamed it up all by themselves and did everything to the get the conference started (they didn't), BYU was far from dominant, as evidenced by the record books.
