162 games is ridiculous. The NFL is the premier sport in America and it's under 20 games. (Basketball season is too long too, but that's another matter) Baseball needs to shorten the season and make other changes to the playoffs.

I would advocate for each team doing a home and home with their division (3 games each series) for a total of 24 divisional games, one home and home with another division in the league (3 game series) for 24 more, one interleague division home and home for 24 more. 72 games. Go back to the original extra innings rule since the season is shorter.

Regardless of divisions, the best 4 records go to the playoffs from each league. 8 team playoff. Divisional series is best of 3. League championship is best of 5. World Series is best of 7. Less is more.

I'd also being to restructure the AAA into a new system that has promotion and relegation like European soccer.
