Since it’s the annual season of non-baseball fans moaning about baseball dying
off, let me get out in front of the debate and endorse the single best idea for fixing baseball’s watchability - the pitch clock. 15 seconds from the time a pitchers receives the ball back from the catcher, he needs to be throwing again. Give a few warnings and then start calling balls.

When controlling for numbers of pitches, hits, runs, pitching changes, etc, games are still nearly 45 min to an hour longer than 30 years ago. Not only will it shorten the game, but baseball is so much more fun when the at-bats move at a good pace. It’s similar to the shot clock in b-ball. Get rid of the human rain delays and save baseball.

I’m also in favor of banning the shift, but I lead out with my more popular proposal.
