If the defense made a stop and gave the offense the ball with a chance to win, I would say the defense did enough to win regardless of the outcome. That didn't happen. There were 6 plays before the long pass play where the defense could have made a play. They didn't move Boise State backward once. There is no evidence that our defense would have stopped them if not for the long pass to Shakir. It also wasn't 3rd and long, it was 1st and 10.
