Here's my take:
I don't like parties or dressing in costume.
I feel that my kids shouldn't have 20 lbs of candy or need four dress up activities.
But my wife is kinder than I am, and reminds me how much fun the kids have dressing up with their friends.
I see a LOT of people in our community come to our trunk or treat and have a great time getting to know our members.
I love my kids and want them to have great memories of being a kid (and they have enough memories already of me being a grinch).
THUS I wholeheartedly support our multiple Halloween activities (well, perhaps "wholeheartedly" is a stretch, but outwardly I am GUNG HO!). But after our kids get all their candy and have sorted it into piles, we let them keep a certain amount and then take the rest so they don't consume all of it.
This year the fact that its scheduled at the same time as a BYU football game is, admittedly, bringing out a little of my natural grinchness, which I will have to work to counter 😉
