I commented on this while watching with a former Y linebacker. How many times this year did the opposing QB fumble a snap or exchange….then have time to pick it up and actually gain yards, including first downs? The former Y linebacker reacted, “Drives me crazy. All those who defend Tuiaki don’t stop to consider that a more aggressive approach would likely lead to a turnover, or in the very least, a loss of yardage. Try fumbling an exchange vs Michigan or Georgia or even Utah. There would be a backfield riot of opposition jerseys diving for that ball and QB or RB.”
I’ve read a lot of support for our defensive approach. Seriously, USC is not good. The fact we had to hang on for dear life was a letdown. My friend said, “This current defense would get destroyed in an NY6 game. I love our team but let’s be honest, that defense, with all the injuries, is really bad right now. Unbelievably soft. Easy to run on. Easy to pass on. I wish Tuiaki would at least mix it up more. Stunts. Loops. More “fake” blitzes. Particularly vs freshman QB’s.”
