When independents contract individual bowls the payouts are generally much different, and more often LESS than ones contracted with conferences. So we have no way of telling which has a higher Payout for BYU. However, if BYU arranged an option to replace one independence bowl with a GRB berth, that’s a good indication the GRB pays BYU more or will net more money. Why else would BYU work it in? Travel costs are lower and BYU is more likely to recover the costs of purchasing its allotment of Bowl tickets for the GRB vs Independence.
