Including the Rose Bowl, the B1G has 8 bowl tie ins outside of NY6 bowls. There are 9 eligible teams. One will take the Rose bowl leaving 8 teams to fill 7 slots. The two NY6 bowls take up two more teams leaving only 6 teams to fill 7 slots. That means one slot remains. The GRB and Quick Lane Bowls are the last two to pick and one of them will fill their slot with MD while the other has to chose someone outside the B1G. GRB has an option to fill its slot with either a MWC team or BYU. Since the GRB has a replacement readily available it is more likely the B1G will send MD to the Quick Lane Bowl and let the GRB exercise its option to take BYU.
