And, if you don't succeed at a very high-profile school like Oregon? You still get another job somewhere for a pretty good salary.

Oregon, worst-case, he gets $18M over 3 years before losing the job and then another $7M in buyout for $25M in 3 years, after which he gets a lesser HC job for $1M/yr, making $32M over the next decade
Oregon, best-case, he gets $18M over 3 years before being a hot coaching prospect elsewhere and has his salary raised to $8M for the next 6 or 7 years, making $60M
There's just no downside to it right now.
