Women's volleyball probably isn't, at least based on U of Minnesota's numbers

In pro-COVID 2019, Minnesota women's volleyball, which averaged 5,400 per attendees match (students get in free), made $737,000 in operating revenue on $3,873,000 operating expenses. Even removing allocated coaches salaries of $933,000 (Hugh McCutcheon probably makes more than Heather Olmstead), U of M volleyball was still $2,202,000 in the red.

Even men's hockey, which obviously is big at Minnesota, is basically break-even ($5.6M revenue on $5.3M expenses).

Anyway, figures are from the 2019 Gophers NCAA report here: https://gophersports.com/sports/2018/5/21/ot-financial-reports-html.aspx
