The reality is that a conference can only have a couple of blue bloods.
Past success that led to blue blood status doesn't solve the problem that both OU and UT face going into the SEC. They are both at a competitive disadvantage going in simply because of their coaching situations.

UT has struggled to find a coach who can meet even diminished expectations. Now with the SEC invite, finding and retaining a top coach is imperative.

OU just lost their great coach and their next coach will need to stop the bleeding at the QB position just to have time to become competitive in the SEC.

If LSU and FL bounce back, then the fight for the #2 blue blood position in the SEC could be brutal. The result may be a very diluted light shade of blue blood shared by several SEC teams. That could lead to a lot of churn in the SEC coaching ranks for a long time to come.
