I paid rent to my parents for a year after my wife and I graduated and needed a bridge to grad school. We moved into the basement and paid $500/month. That's pretty affordable rent--though it wasn't exactly "our own place", but I secretly hoped they were using the rent as a mandatory savings account and would give it back when we started graduate school...nope.

My dad was, and is, a firm believer in self-reliance. So nope.

I'm not opposed to the idea though. I wouldn't say no to help!
