There was rock or island out a ways, so I suggested we swim out to it. I badly misjudged the distance. I was a poor swimmer, but in pretty good physical shape. We got to within about a hundred yards of it and my wife said she couldn't make it! I was getting tired but just bluffed and said I would tow her there. I just kept pounding at the water until we got there. I was exhausted. We sat on the rock for a while, and luckily my friends came by in the boat and we waved them over, or I do not know what we would have done.
