1.Psychedelic advocates screwed up SO BAD the first time psychedelics were introduced to our modern society (modern as of last 80 years) because everyone said, "THESE ARE THE SOLUTION." (see wikipedia entry for Tim Leary). So, yes, anyone attempting to advance their potential benefits has to tone it way, way down and wait until all the data are in.
2. I completely agree with you about "every ten years." Humanity is desperate/foolish in suddenly crowning any promising treatment as a cure-all. We just don't learn. We'd be doing ourselves a huge disservice by engaging in that thinking here. It would be better to approach psychedelics with extreme caution. It would probably be even better to say, "Why do we need to heal in the first place? What are the underlying causes of widespread depression?" (in other words, work on addressing the causes rather than the symptoms).
