Who knows? Maybe Nevada, New Mexico, CSU, Houston, TCU?
Even without 2008 BCS you could argue Utah was better athletic program than all of those schools, except maybe TCU at the time.
Academically, probably seen better than most of those as well.
So utah still might have been best choice, or maybe they just bring on Colorado, or maybe Colorado just stays in big 12.

2021 loss to BSU would have meant we get beat down in a NY6 bowl by a good team instead of pre-Christmas by a bad one
