When an LA team is good, then everyone jumps on the train. When a team is mediocre or bad, then most "fans" become instantly apathetic. I've lived in metro LA twice, for almost 12 years in total, and I've seen the ups and downs of the Lakers, Clippers, Angels, Dodgers, Kings, Ducks, USC, UCLA, and now the Chargers and Rams. It's amazing how everyone here can get behind a winner. They will easily have 1M people show up to a victory parade for a Lakers, Dodgers, or Rams championship. On the flipside, if USC football is not playing well, then the Coliseum is extremely empty on game days (unless they are playing a team that travels well), and they even have tarps covering large swaths of seats in the stadium to make it appear more full (sounds like a Pac12 thing--i.e. Utes at the Huntsman center). In cities like Boston and Chicago, the fans will still show up at games even if the teams are lousy. They might be vociferous about their displeasure with the team's performance, but they will still be there. I sat in the outfield stands at Wrigley about 10 years ago next to a bunch of Chicago retirees (men and women) who were passionate Cubs fans. They knew the stats and backgrounds of every single person on the roster, and they would catcall and boo players who were not playing up to their expectations. They would yell stuff like, "Go back to Iowa (AAA Cubs) you bum!", if a player had an error or a bad at-bat. In LA, they would probably space out looking at their phone, or head to concessions to get another beer.
