Good thoughts, Sadly the actual game was completely different.
Since BYU's best drives were immediately AFTER Coastal Carolina had long drives. . . There was never a "Get into a rhythm problem" Quick list of possessions after each of CCU's drives ranked from longest to shortest.
CCU Touchdown - TOP 9:05
- BYU Responds with a touchdown 76 yards
CCU Touchdown - TOP 6:06
- BYU Responds with a 1st down and then pass to Chris Jackson who immediately runs backwards for 20 yards. PUNT.
CCU Touchdown - TOP 5:54
- BYU Responds with a touchdown 94 yards
CCU Punt - TOP 3:57
- BYU Responds with an 81 yard drive as time expires
CCU Punt - TOP 3:43
- BYU Responds with Allgeier Fumble on Play 1
The rest of CCU's drives were about 2 minutes - BYU played like crap after each and everyone of them.
After Halftime sitting in the locker room BYU got the ball and drove 56 yards for a field goal.
TL;DR - The longer CCU's drive was, the better BYU played. So this entire "rhythm" theory sounds like it had just as much research and solid facts as Joe Biden vs Donald Trump debates.
