A couple months ago there was a thread with discussion about recruiting that mentioned 4* LDS LB recruit Liona Lefau and some of us were dismayed that it seemed like BYU was not recruiting him with the vigor one would expect. Several CB recruiting masters downplayed it and wrote in certainty that it was because the LB position was not a priority. Lefau ended up selecting Texas and today we get a commitment from an unevaluated LB with no major offers. Watching the film I would be surprised if they plan to move Watson to DL so apparently we are recruiting LBs... like any other school in the country.
This post isn't even to say I'm right but it is to remind us all that most of us know nothing.
Don't take this post as a knock on Watson because its not at all. The negative responses to his commitment are pathetic and probably just reinforce that we know nothing about recruiting. In fact I see a lot to like and I'm firmly in his corner and excited he's coming. Still wish we would take a different approach with how we communicate with players we are recruiting. I'll shortly be posting some thoughts I have been putting together on that subject for a long time.
