I love having deep philosophical conversations with my wife, but my kids hate it when I do that to them. We have tried to be very deliberate about the punishments we dole out, but this is the first time when our daughter has said one thing (I understand the rules, agree with them, and will follow them) and lied completely and even tried to cover it up.

I agree though, this isn't about technology, its about our relationship with our daughter. We have failed her in many ways; one of those was giving her too long of a leash. I am happy to reinstate privileges to her as she starts to prove to us that she can be trusted, but as of right now I don't trust her at all.
