ESPN knows how long a football game lasts. They'd rather run over than under.
Under is dead air time, time enough for people to get bored, flip the channel, and watch some other football game. Over just means you've got fans for 4 teams tuning in at the same time.
Hopefully renewed/increased competition from Fox and others will force ESPN to reverse their quality trend of the past few years.

I am kinda bummed that it seems BYU/BIGXII will end up with ESPN being the major media provider for FB games & BIGXII.

Yes, a lot of games were scheduled one on top of the other. A part of it was TV timeouts for commercials would run over.
