The issue at hand with EVs is not the efficiency of the drivetrain
When compared to an ICE.
There is still a large divide in the energy density of the fuels. Until the energy density issue can be solved, ICE will continue to be the choice of the masses.
The energy density of gasoline is 45 MJ/kg whereas lithium ion batteries are only 0.954 MJ/kg. Even factoring in the efficiencies of the two systems, there is 10x more energy in gasoline.
