care how close the score is to the line. They simply care that they set a line which causes 50% of the money to be placed on each side of it because that's how they are guaranteed to come out ahead no matter the outcome of the game.

Vegas's lines have nothing to do with how close they think the game will be and everything to do with how close they predict gamblers will think the game will be.
