Obviously, a win is ALWAYS better than a loss. The winning team will always feel better about winning their last game
than the losing team will.
No respectable team or pllayer is going to walk away from a loss and say - "it was meaningless, and we don't care that we lost."
THAT - would be more than just dumb. In the workplace that attitude would be a fireable offense.

I suspect the early bowl date preference had more to do with getting the new staff going with recruiting and such
