Totally agree, transferring is an academic pain, you lose credits, have a whole
new set of professors you need to become accustomed to for counseling/senior project slots, etc. And as you point out, you may be giving up a respected degree for a lesser one and setting yourself back financially by a few years. Can take longer to graduate. These guys that transfer two or three times especially, what a costly endeavor.
The ones I totally understand are the grad transfers that have already finished their undergrad, that makes tons of sense. But those are the minority.
You are much better off doing a sound self-analysis of your academic and athletic abilities plus work ethic and aligning yourself with a school where you are comfortable and have a high likelihood of success on and off the field, and then committing to working hard as a freshman and soph with a view to contributing as a junior or senior.
I get this is hard, but I can guarantee you 100% that a huge portion of these kids don't even attempt such a self evaluation, and they are the ones that end up flailing around. Too much desire for instant gratification without the work, and it's self-defeating.
