Of up to 95%. Most aren’t that high, but it is normal for administrative costs of the charities to be 40% to 50% of your dollar. So only about half of your dollar actually goes to the cause. That isn’t the way that the Church does it. The Church covers the cost of the administration so that 100% of your dollar goes towards the charity’s purpose. That’s the point. It cannot go to a parking validation for one of the cbarity’s employees. Look it up.
Yes, there’s an asterisk so that if the needs of the donors change, they can adjust.
You are looking at it just from the donor’s standpoint saying that your employer matches what you pay. You’re clearly missing the cost of running the charity. So while your employer has 7,000 charities to choose from, have you taken the time to review the charity’s 990 to see what their administrative costs are? My bet is no.
I wasn’t saying that the giving machines are by far the best way to give your money, I said the Church is by far the best vehicle. Their administrative costs are lower than any others out their because of the volunteer components. Catholic Charities is also a very good and direct way, but even their administrative costs don’t match the Church’s.
By the way, the Church doesn’t take credit for the donations either. They only publish what they give.
In summary, you’ve missed the point. You’ve focused on your employer and completely missed the cost of actually running the charities.
