I see this as a writing fail more than a comprehension fail. OP says be kind to

Utes, including this random dude. Your response was "I would take this suggestion seriously if ALUF's were better people." You at least implied that you did not need to be kind, as requested by the OP, because ALUF's did not attempt to get other Utes to be kind. I'm paraphrasing and inferring, but you leave a lot to the reader when you respond to a 10 paragraph post with one dismissive sentence.
