So if you want to live a more free lifestyle than you are now then consider 20%. Don't fall into the trap of never doing anything fun. Then you'll turn 55 and not be able to do anything due to your health and all of the sudden you saved all that money for nothing. I say once you hit those obligations feel free to get nice things or have some fun!

Ask my father in law. He's house ridden after doing zero fun things with my wife and their family growing up. Sure wishes he would have taken the time for the fun stuff now.
