Nobody left in the PAX is worth enough to be added to the B10. Maybe a combination of ND and Stanford would work
The same is going to hold true for the SEC and soon the B12
For a school to be additive they need to add their own value plus about $1M for each existing school and the conference. As a conference gets bigger the numbers become overwhelming. There could be a market that meets the criteria if the TV partner and their advertising branch likes the potential mix with other markets. This could certainly be the case with Washington and ASU
So let’s take $31M now add $14M (one for each existing school) plus one for the conference equals a total of $46M of incremental revenue. Who is worth that?
I think it was Bob Thompson who out WA at $45M and OR at $40M. They are probably close enough to be included. As stated earlier ASU gets a pass. Does anybody else make the grade?
Are there any markets left that large advertisers would want to pay at least the $32M to make everyone whole?
Let’s try Lexus for example:
Utah…nope BYU covers that
WSU….nope
OSU….nope
CAL….nope
UofA….nope but maybe because of the AZ total population
CO….good car market
Stanford….yep fits the profile…but they would say no
It really doesn’t have much to do with how many games you won, who you beat etc. This is a pure money play for advertisers and for the school to get more applicants. Not that some need that but it is a huge revenue source and football success and TV has shown to increase applications
Rant over
