I was the middle car of three cars all coming down a hill between two towns where there was a notorious speed trap. All three cars were going the same speed. The cop pulled me over for some unknown reason, even though I was not the first car, setting the speed, nor the last car, that had come up quickly on the other two and clearly wanted to push the pace. I was going 12 or 13 over, and the cop, out of the goodness of his heart, reduced it to 9 over.

I went to traffic court, and it went something like this. The cop took about 30 seconds to present his evidence. The judge asked me, "Were you going the speed cited?"

I said, "Yes I was, your honor. However--"

Bang. "Citation upheld. Next!"
