80% of BYU students are from out of state. That's reversed when talking about the Ewe, a commuter school.
Yewt pattern: If you live in Utah, go to the Ewe if you live with mom and dad who hate Mormons and BYU as a proxy or get rejected at BYU and hate BYU for it. Get Ewe license plate.
Cougar pattern: 80% Not from Utah but go to BYU and never think about the commuter schools in state and leave the state afterwards OR 20% live in Utah, go to BYU and get good jobs that take (most of them) out of state where you can't get BYU tags.
BYU is a national brand, with a following several times greater than the local, in--state yewt brand. There is no BYU license plate issued outside of Utah, so it makes sense the yewts have the most customized license plates in Utah.
