BYU fans have been waiting so long to get accepted to the P5 world, despite being more than worthy, that they lose
sight of everyone else's strategic objectives.

I'm reminded of the 2010 expansion and how BYU fans tried to remind Utah that no one cared about BCS bowls or the credibility of beating Alabama. It was just two great seasons and Utah has no fan base.

Yet, the expansion Gods blessed Utah more than probably any other program in that era.

As much as you'd like Utah to be relegated to irrelevance, there is genuine fear within the Big 12 and ACC that they get relegated.

P2 dominance is real. For as much as the Big 12 constantly compares their media deal to the Pac-12, it's a fraction of what P2 is getting.

If the Big 12 isn't careful, they could be viewed as a high end G5 as P2 starts separating themselves.

Dominating football coverage, even on Fox/ESPN — Big 12's supposed major media partners, who views Big 12 as a nice 3rd or 4th option for ESPNU, ESPN+ and to fill in programming gaps between USC vs. Penn State and Florida vs. Texas.

While the Big 12 is great top to bottom, that strength could be their weakness...similar to the Pac-12 the last few years. What if the Big 12 CCG has 2-loss #17 TCU vs. 3-loss #19 KSU?

It won't draw.

With larger conferences the SEC and BIG can produce undefeated or 1-loss blue bloods in their CCG. And the separation gets bigger each year.

Big 12 needs more competitive schools capable of getting to a top 5 - 10 ranking and adding credibility at the top.

Adding CU, SDSU, UConn, ASU and AZ doesn't help that.

Utah does. Even if Utah had zero fan base...the perception of Utah's competitiveness right now...matters in the area that is most important to the Big 12 brass and their highest level fears.

Utah doesn't miss the boat.
