I don’t disagree with you, it’s important not to burn bridges and keep relationships positive, but I think recruiting HS should be the base for most off seasons. You want the players on the field for more than a year or two and want them in the locker room for 3 or 4, you get the most out of them.

I think BYU needs to recruit better, swapping their mid .8400 and below recruits into .8600 and above recruits. That is what good teams do. You shouldn’t depend on leftovers in most cases, I believe Taggart, Robbins, Heckard are the exception. Most of the time though the reality is that the players are available because the other team upgraded.

If you look at BYU portal ranking it’s great but, it’s mostly because of quantity. Look at average player ranking, BYU is .8700, there are few teams in top 40 that have lower average player ranking.

I believe you want to grab the players you need and definite upgrades / better players (.8800 and above), but you don’t want to fill half your starters every year with once and done transfer guys. It’s just keeping your head above water for that year and possibly the next.
