heavily. You can still see the craters today. There were tons and tons of earth an concrete protecting the German defenses. It would have been impossible to reduce them totally with aerial bombardments.

Many of the beaches were easy to breach as a result of the bombing and the deception of Operation Fortitude

I've also read they tried to do this, but from high altitude with B17's. Clouds made this more inaccurate.
