The church is spending hundreds of millions at BYU. Save your “church needs to
do more” for the SL Trib opinion pages. Complaints that the church is being cheap when it comes to BYU is extremely myopic. How can anyone complain that the church is not supporting BYU enough? Every single one of us who went to school there or send our kids there save tens of thousands of dollars on a college education. Now we want our sports teams subsidized as well?
Sports is entertainment. And the mission of the church is not to entertain us. While the church does not send money directly to the athletic department it is ignorant to accuse the church of not supporting BYU. Either the fans put up the money or we don’t. But to pretend it is the church’s responsibility to spend even more money at BYU so I can be entertained is ridiculous.
