This trope about BYU athletics (esp. FB) being a missionary tool is a joke. No
one ever has numbers; everything is anecdotal or imagination.

If I'm a tithe paying member with kids at the U or any other university, why would I feel good about the Church and school subsidizing BYU sports with my contribution?

If I'm a member in Africa, Europe, South America, etc., I love football...but that isn't American football. How would it help my testimony to know I might be living on a widow's mite, but part of my mites are being diverted to something as irrelevant as college sports.

If this was an investment in sports to attract potential investigators, it certainly would set a record for cost per conversion. When I read CB fanatics encouraging this, it always makes me suspect that I'm getting advice from people who don't make any contribution other than buying game tickets, and probably complain about the rising costs of those.

Can we cease with more stormy outbursts about why the Church should subsidize athletics? I'm a Cougar fanatic (but, sadly, not an alumni) and get my invitation each year to the President's dinner in recognition of contributions made; that said, I will be among the first to march on the Church Admin. building if any tithing is diverted to BYU sports.

(And I am a BYU sports fanatic who contributes thousands of dollars each year to many of our teams, not just FB & BB.)
