I am hearing, that he is hearing, that his NIL valuation should be a lot more than he is getting, so he is testing the waters.
Do I blame him--a guy with 2 more years of eligibility that might make some money playing overseas for bit after that? Not at all. I slogged through very hot summers of knocking on people's doors to sell them stuff so that I could avoid student loans and have time to study and have fun at school--if he can take significant steps to set himself up for life while in school by playing a sport he loves, good for him.
Here is the dilemma--who wants to keep giving big money to year-by-year mercenaries? I have read some explanations--it is the actual school, church, etc. that we are supporting vs. the players on the field.
That does not do it for me.
If you are at BYU simply b/c it is the best deal you can get, for yourself, for this particular year before you hit the market again, I do not care to see you, much less pay to see you play.
I don't watch or care about minor league sports b/c they are meaningless. They are a vehicle for players on their way up or trying to hold on. That's it.
College sports are heading that way and in some ways are now actually worse.
