The Liberator by Kershaw is one of the best, but it doesn't cover D-Day because
Felix Sparks came in through Italy. Still, a great read. (IIRC, Sparks was once asked if he stormed "the beach," to which he responded, "Which one? I've done four." But it may have been Audie Murphy who said that.)

For Normandy, I would add Dog Company by Patrick K. O'Donnell about the Rangers who took Pointe Du Hoc.

PS - I've taken two sons and my in-laws to Normandy. It's a field trip I wish everyone could take at least once. It's a very moving experience.
