because it was engagingly written (as you mentioned for the 18-year-old ADD kids), but that it showed field-level initiative by an officer and cohesion of a unit. I never heard a single complaint from them about accuracy or Winters making his role bigger than it was.
The TV Series is full of dramatizations, most definitely. Regardless of how much Winters may have exaggerated, I think a monument to him is fitting in Normandy as he was the bridge to tell that generation's story to millions and essentially guaranteed the tourism industry there. Prior to Band of Brothers, the Normandy beach tourist industry was struggling. Now, you go and can find a little private museum tucked away on every corner along the coast.
If I was part of the Normandy tourism industry, I'd probably make a monument to Winters as well. He saved their livelihood.
