There's no legal reason he couldn't have expressed a little bit of appreciation a week ago.

Best case scenario, he likes BYU, but it just hasn't been a priority to him. Hey, there's a lot of things I'd like to do too that I don't have the time for.

I think that's a lame excuse, though, and says a lot that he didn't prioritize it until now. But better late than never.
