Neither profession does much psychotherapy. That's mainly clinical social

workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists these days.

If a psychiatrist or a psychologist wanted to provide psychotherapy they could. Most educational programs don't include a lot of training on that though and there isn't as much money in therapy as testing and prescribing.
